Long ago the lands of Lore belonged to the wild equine herds that roamed its glorious mountains, valleys and plains. The herds were in relative peace though they did fight like any other kind are tempted to but their wars were short and rare. For the herds of Lore, they were comfortable in their peace, attuned to the land in a way that it was said many were gifted with elemental powers to control the water and fire, earth and wind. The peace for the herds ended one day when the Silver Sea became suddenly still and silent. The herds gathered, frightened but curious at the strange event. Equines gifted with the powers of water tried to move the water, will it to bend or create waves but the ocean remained still through the night.
When the sun rose, the ocean froze over and the equines were blinded by a light from an unknown source. When the light died, before them stood a fae of stunning white with strange markings and even stranger eyes. She walked upon the ice with the silence of a spirit. The equines recognized her as one of the wolves of legend that had left Lore long ago when the human race died. They were frightened but could not flee the fae for she captured their legs in ice as she stepped onto land.
Following the strange fae came a pack of wolves. Without giving a reason the fae vanished, rolling away like the morning mist as her pack came upon the shores. The ocean was unfrozen at her disappearance. The wolves shared their tale, claiming to come from the far north where their packs had lived for generations in safety until the fae, Austrila, came and told them it was time to return to their ancestor's homes in Lore. They claimed the fae had frozen the ocean for them so they could walk upon it and the equines believed their tale. For nearly two generations the wolves and equines remained at cautious distance but in relative peace once more. Neither race saw a sign of Austrila since her vanishing upon the shores.
The troubles began when a young wolf accidentally killed an equine. The horses grew restless and worried, fearing the wolves would kill more of them now that one had tasted horse blood. The herds became more defensive of their lands, pushing the wolves off their herdlands and into the more untamed wildernesses, undesired by horses. The wolves fought back, angry at being accused of being mindless killers. In the end, the wolves and horses fell into a constant battle, wolves claiming they had been mistreated and equines claiming the wolves had no right to the lands of Lore for they were mere killers.
To this day the battle continues between the herds and packs though some still question the true motives of Austrila. Little do they know, Austrila has no gone. She watches and waits in despair.
